Research

Experience of stress is a well-known, important risk factor for unhealthy eating behavior in clinical literature. However, although a major source of stress in individuals’ daily life is their work, knowledge about the effects of work characteristics on eating behavior is still scarce.
Throughout my PhD, I will apply important insights, theories and research methods from Eating Behavior research to the field of Work and Organizational Psychology in order to extend our knowledge about the effects of various job demands and resources on employee eating behavior. Specifically, I am interested in the daily (within-person) effects on snacking at work and snacking during non-work hours at home. During the course of multiple projects, I plan to investigate the shorter and longer-term effects of work characteristics on eating behavior as well as generalizability of these findings to employees with particularly problematic eating behaviors.
Before starting my PhD at Maastricht University (March 2019), I completed my MSc in Work and Organizational Psychology also here at Maastricht University. However, my BSc was slightly of a different background: Liberal Arts and Sciences majoring in Social Sciences at University College Tilburg (Tilburg University).
